explore & stay in thorold

Historic Downtown Thorold was awarded the prestigious Prince of Wales Prize in 2017.  This accolade is awarded to one community each year that demonstrates a strong and sustained commitment to the conservation of its historic places.  Downtown honoured its historic identity in 2020 with a comprehensive streetscape renovation that further revitalized the downtown core.  Many of the buildings are designated under the historic act.  Known for our historic looking main street, Murdoch Mysteries chose to film on Front Street in 2024. Steeped in history, even the name Thorold has a historical connection.  Thorold was almost called St. George but was named after Sir John Thorold, a member of British Parliament for Lincolnshire, England.  It officially became a village in 1850, a township in 1875 and a city in 1975.   We offer cafes, restaurants, retail boutiques, flowers, hair salons & barbers, beauty services, ATMs, gas station, post office, library, variety stores, pharmacies, doctors, dentists, health & wellness businesses and more.  We also hold many special events in the downtown area.
